Join us to honour the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation on September 29th at Festival Hall (4214 58 Street, Red Deer) from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. This free event is open to everyone, registration is required doors open at 8:30 am and we will begin with our morning workshop:
\r\nAn Introduction and Understanding of Canadian Treaties: A Shared History
\r\nPresented by: Terry Lakey & Brian St. Germain
\r\nThis introductory presentation on Canadian treaties will explore historical and contemporary information relating to the numbered treaties. Participants will gain an understanding of our shared past and examine the spirit and intent of these treaties. The Canadian Geographic Giant Floor Map will be used to help guide learning.
\r\nLunch is provided and will be followed by our afternoon workshop:

\r\nDo you know that your personal history and socialization affect your learning and perception of the world? Have you practiced being an ally in the Indigenous community in the past year? What are some of the learning experiences you have had that make you a better ally? What do you need to know and do to be an even more effective and supportive ally?
\r\nAnd…let’s talk about land acknowledgements! Who is responsible for the land acknowledgement? What does it mean and why do we do land acknowledgements? What can we include in a land acknowledgement?
\r\nPlease come prepared for discussion and maybe even some small group work!
